A lack of original ideas?

What is happening with TV these days? There seems to be a complete lack of original content.
The BBC have just announced a Christmas Special of To The Manor Born, they’ve also announced two characters in EastEnders will be returning. Can’t these writers come up with something more original? Even the relaunched Dr. Who - entertaining as it is, has only seen it reuse existing classic Dr. Who enemies as the main protagonists for the series: Daleks, Cybermen, The Master…
I’m shuddering at the thought of “Son’s Army”, a remake of “Dad’s Army” where the sons of the Walmington-on-sea Home Guard form their own modern-day Home Guard to defend against terrorism… It’s bound to be on someone’s desk in the BBC.
